The number is poor and it is not the story. He had stopped .907 with 6 shutouts the season before.
The Physical Game
6-1 and 218, and the game is athletic and aggressive — he challenges hard, cuts down angles, and relies on getting to the puck rather than on covering the net.
The rebound control is the weakness and the lateral recovery is ordinary, which is a difficult combination behind a club that gives up second chances. At his best he is a genuinely capable NHL starter for stretches.
The Mental Game
He has been open about obsessive-compulsive disorder throughout his career and stepped away twice to address it, most recently in March.
That is a health matter and not a character one, and it should be read as such. What it means for a projection is that the club cannot plan on a fixed number of starts, which is precisely the risk a third goaltender is supposed to absorb rather than create.
