This Season So Far

Last Season
12 goals and 21 assists in 82 games for Montreal — 33 points at 15:15 a night, minus-5, on 16 penalty minutes. It is the first fully healthy season he has played since 2020-21.
Philadelphia signed him in the summer for the bottom of the lineup, on a club that had just lost Scott Laughton, Morgan Frost and Ryan Poehling out of the middle in the space of four months.
The Finesse Game
104 attempts and 12 goals at 11.5 per cent. The shot is functional and the release is quick, and he has scored between 10 and 18 goals in every full season of his career.
The value is the draw and the defensive read. He wins the faceoff that starts the shift, he makes the safe first pass, and 21 assists is what a third-line centre produces when he is not being asked to create.
The Physical Game
6-1 and 190 and neither heavy nor easily removed. He is not a forechecker in the punishing sense and he does not finish checks.
16 penalty minutes in 82 games is a very low rate. He comes back, he can be trusted with a lead, and he kills penalties.
The Intangibles
A second-round pick in 2014, 534 games across two organisations, and a career that lost most of three seasons to shoulder, knee and pectoral injuries between 2021 and 2024.
He is 29. The signing is not interesting and it is exactly what a club that lost three centres in a calendar year needed to do.
