The club’s goaltending came in 17.5 goals better than the chances faced, 4th in the league. He was a Vezina finalist and it was the best season he has had since 2022.
The Physical Game
6-4 and 223 and among the most technically complete goaltenders of his era. He is square almost without exception, the depth management is disciplined, and the size takes the top of the net away without him having to move for it.
The rebound control is genuinely excellent — pucks go to the corners rather than to the slot, which is the rarest of the goaltending skills and the reason a heavy workload does not turn into a bad save percentage. The glove is very good and the lateral recovery is quick for a man this size. He handles the puck well.
The Mental Game
He had back surgery in 2023 and posted a .9004 in the season after it, and there was a serious argument that the peak was over. He answered it with a .9207 and 38 wins.
He has won a Vezina, two Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe, and his record in elimination games is among the best of the last twenty years. Nothing about the temperament has ever been in question.
