Last Season

Seventeen goals and eight assists in 66 games — 25 points, minus-nine, at 11:28 a night with three power-play goals.

The Finesse Game

A shooter and very little else. A hundred and forty-four unblocked attempts, seventeen goals, median 26 feet with 44 per cent from inside twenty.

Seventeen goals in eleven and a half minutes a night is a genuinely high rate and it is the second season running he has done it.

Eight assists in 66 games is close to the bottom of this edition. A hundred and twenty-one points in 367 career games, sixty-three of them goals.

The Physical Game

Six foot one, 190, and he goes to the net without much weight to bring. Twenty penalty minutes.

He is not a checker, does not win pucks, and the entire proposition is finding a soft spot and shooting from it.

The Intangibles

Forty-six point five per cent of the expected goals, 21st percentile, and 44.6 per cent of the shot attempts, tenth percentile, across 696 minutes.

That is a poor possession season, and seventeen goals in eleven minutes is a good one. Both are true and the club has to decide which it is buying.

Four points in his last ten, three of them goals. He is 29, a fifth-round pick, and one of the more useful thirteen-goal-a-year men available at a deadline.
