This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

7 goals and 4 assists in 33 games — 11 points at 10:39 a night, minus-1, with 14 penalty minutes on 34 shots, converting at 20.6 per cent.

49.1 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five, the 42nd percentile, across 295 minutes. His ice went 16-10 against an expectation of 9.81-10.16, which on a sample that size is noise.

The Finesse Game

34 attempts at a median of 24 feet with 40 per cent from inside 20, and 7 goals. Twenty per cent will not repeat; the shot location will.

4 assists in 33 games. The passing has not shown up at this level and it was the better half of his junior game, which is the thing to watch.

The Physical Game

6-2 and 204 and he plays a heavy, honest game. He wins the puck below the goal line, he goes to the net, and he forechecks properly.

14 penalty minutes in 33 games. He is disciplined and he wins the draw that begins the shift, which for a fourth-line centre is most of the job.

The Intangibles

A second-round pick of the Islanders in 2021 who had been the presumptive first overall pick a year earlier and fell out of the first round entirely — traded to Vancouver in 2023 in the Bo Horvat deal.

48 NHL games. He is 22 and a fourth-line centre on a club that has almost no centre depth behind its two injured ones.

The two rank him within 18 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.

Both bars are percentiles among the 637 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 74 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Usual linemates

2024-25 · 295 minutes at five-on-five

Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.

Why the numbers land there

48.2% together, 49.6% for him apart and 52.3% for Hoglander apart. Hoglander was better away from him while his own share held, which is a mark against him more than for him.

Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
