Last Season

Nine goals and 12 assists in 45 games — 21 points, minus-two, at 12:49 a night with ten penalty minutes. His first professional season.

He turned 19 in February.

The Finesse Game

The shot chart is the best on the club. Sixty-two per cent of his unblocked attempts came from inside twenty feet with a median of sixteen, and only nine per cent from beyond forty.

That is a nineteen-year-old who already knows where goals come from, which is the part that usually takes three years. Nine goals from eighty-two tries.

Twelve assists in thirteen minutes a night is a fair rate, and the vision was the reason he went second overall.

The Physical Game

Six foot one, 185, and slight. Ten penalty minutes in 45 games.

He is a teenager among men and it shows on the wall and in front of the net. The skating is genuinely good and it is what keeps him out of trouble.

The Intangibles

Forty-eight point seven per cent of the expected goals, 42nd percentile, and 49.5 per cent of the shot attempts, 51st, across 530 minutes.

Those are the best possession figures of any San Jose forward — better than Celebrini’s, better than Smith’s — in a sheltered role and a small sample, and both of those caveats matter.

Five points in his last ten. He is 19, the second pick in 2025, and the third top-five selection San Jose has turned into a regular in three drafts.
