That is the lowest figure of any season in which he has played twenty games, against a career .9170 across 350. The club’s goaltending still came in 6.4 goals better than the chances it faced, 11th in the league, and almost all of it was him.
The Physical Game
He is 5-11 and 180 pounds and plays a deep, compact game, taking away the bottom of the net and relying on being square rather than on covering ground.
Twenty-three career shutouts in 350 games. At that size there is no blocking a shot he has not seen, so everything depends on the tracking, and the tracking is the best part of him. He is quick across the crease and he has to be.
The Mental Game
Rebound control is genuinely good — he swallows the first shot far more often than a goaltender this small should be able to.
He handles the puck sparingly and the club does not ask for more. Sixty-four games at 5-11 is a very heavy load and he has now carried sixty or more for three seasons in a row.
The Intangibles
A fourth-round pick in 2013 out of Forssa, nine seasons, 350 games and 182 wins, all of it for one organisation.
He is 29 and the club has just traded away Yaroslav Askarov, whom it drafted eleventh overall, and kept the ninety-ninth pick. That decision is the whole of Nashville’s next four years.
