The Finesse Game

A shooter with a genuinely heavy release. Two hundred and sixty unblocked attempts — the most of any St. Louis forward — from a median of 27 feet with 36 per cent from inside twenty, and 21 goals out of it.

Thirty assists says the passing is not an afterthought. Fifty-one points from a twenty-one-year-old in sixteen minutes a night is a genuinely strong first season and the plus-16 is the best figure among the club’s forwards.

The Physical Game

Six foot one, 193, and he goes to the interior more than most young scorers do. Eighteen penalty minutes.

He is not heavy yet and the wall work is where he loses exchanges. The skating is honest rather than quick.

The Intangibles

Forty-eight point three per cent of the expected goals, 38th percentile, and 46.7 per cent of the shot attempts, 24th, across 979 minutes — with the goals 30 for and 47 against.

That is the worst on-ice goal margin on the club sitting underneath the best plus-minus among its forwards, which is the sort of contradiction special teams produce.
