Against a career .9075 across 429 games that is a bad season, and it happened in front of the twenty-ninth-worst chance suppression in hockey and then the twenty-first. He arrived in New Jersey at the deadline and took 13 of the games.
The Physical Game
He is 6-2 and 197 and challenges high in his crease, coming out to meet the shooter rather than waiting.
Twenty-four career shutouts in 429 games. He is quick and the glove is the better hand. The aggressive depth has always cost him on the second play, and at 34 the recovery is a step slower than the style requires.
The Mental Game
Rebound control has been the weakness of his whole career; he stops a great many first shots and leaves too many of them where somebody can reach.
He handles the puck well and is willing to leave the net to do it. Eleven seasons of being somebody’s 1B has produced 195 wins and no expectation of ever being anything else.
