Last Season
Six goals and thirteen points in 56 games on nine and a half minutes a night, plus-two. That is his first NHL season, in the smallest role available, on a team with no need to play him.
The Finesse Game
The skating is the reason he is here. He is genuinely quick, changes direction well, and he forechecks with a speed that creates turnovers a bigger fourth-liner would not.
Sixty-two shots in fifty-six games at nine minutes a night is an aggressive rate and the most promising thing on his record — a small player who goes to the net rather than living on the perimeter.
The playmaking is real and largely unused in this role.
The Physical Game
Five-eight and 173, and it is the entire question. He cannot win a battle against an NHL defenceman, and a heavy forecheck removes him from a puck. He does not avoid contact, which is admirable and does not change the physics.
The Intangibles
A second-round pick out of Michigan who reached the NHL fast, and a body type that the league has been slowly getting friendlier toward.
He needs a top-nine opportunity to show anything, and on this roster there is nowhere to give him one. The tools say he is worth finding a way.
