Twelve goals and 27 points in 73 games on thirteen minutes a night — a solid rookie line, and it came without power-play time worth mentioning. He played 36 percent of his five-on-five minutes on a third line that changed shape all year.

The Finesse Game

The skill is genuine. He handles the puck well at speed, makes plays off the wall rather than dumping it, and has a quick enough release to punish a goaltender who does not respect him yet. There were stretches last season where he looked like the most dangerous player on his line.

What he does not yet have is consistency of impact. Eighty shots in seventy-three games is a low volume for a player with his hands, and a lot of shifts pass without him touching the game.

He came over from the KHL as a twenty-two-year-old rather than a teenager, which usually means a shorter adjustment. That appears to have been true.

The Physical Game

Six-one and 178, and he needs weight. He is not shy about going to the middle of the ice, but he loses puck battles he will win in three years, and defencemen move him off the wall too easily.

The Intangibles

The twenty-fourth pick in 2022, developed at home rather than rushed, and delivered to a club that needs exactly this — a young scorer on an entry-level deal while the top of the roster gets expensive.

The projection is a middle-six scorer with a chance at more. On a team that just lost two veteran wingers, he is going to get the opportunity to prove which.
