Last Season
Nine goals and 14 assists in 81 games — 23 points, plus-eight, at 11:25 a night with 92 penalty minutes, the most on the club.
The Finesse Game
Modest and correctly placed. A hundred unblocked attempts with 49 per cent from inside twenty feet, median 22, and nine goals.
Two hundred and eighteen points in 723 career games. He is not here to score and everybody knows it.
The Physical Game
Five foot eleven and 191 pounds, and one of the most disliked opponents in the league. Ninety-two penalty minutes, a long record of crossing lines, and a willingness to fight men who outweigh him considerably.
He forechecks hard and talks constantly, and clubs keep signing him because that is worth something in April.
The Intangibles
Fifty-four point three per cent of the expected goals, 84th percentile, and 52.2 per cent of the shot attempts, 77th, with the goals 44-32 in his favour across 917 minutes.
Those are genuinely good fourth-line numbers on the best defensive team in the league.
He is 33, a third-round pick, twelve seasons in. Three points in his last ten. This is the modern version of the agitator job — small, quick enough to play a real shift, and no longer required to fight for a living to justify the roster spot.
