Minus-40 at five-on-five is the worst on-ice goal differential of anybody in this edition. Nine goals of scoring that did not arrive and eighteen more conceded than the chances called for, which is a bad assignment made worse by the goaltending behind it.

He will fight, he clears the crease, and he takes liberties on men who have already been beaten. On a club whose penalty kill was 22nd, seventy-one minutes from a third pairing is a real charge.

A seventh-round pick in 2013 out of Vancouver, four seasons across three organisations, and 19 points in 168 games.
He is 29 and the fourth checking defenceman this club added in a summer. Nineteen minutes a night was San Jose’s problem rather than his, and nineteen minutes a night is not what should be asked of him here.
