This Season So Far
The 2024-25 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
Fourteen games, 8-4-1, a .9275 save percentage, a 2.25 average and 2 shutouts on 414 shots.
Two shutouts in fourteen games matches Alexandar Georgiev’s total in sixty-three. It is a small sample and it is the best goaltending Colorado received all season by a margin nobody can argue with.
The Physical Game
He is 6-4 and 210 and takes away the top of the net by standing up rather than by reaching. Against a clean shot from distance there is very little to shoot at, and he does not have to move to make the save.
The rebound control is better than the man ahead of him and the puck is steered to the corner rather than returned to the slot. The lateral movement is the question — at that size the second play across the crease is slower, and a good passing club will find it.
The Mental Game
Eighteen career games across three seasons, most of them spent waiting. A .9275 in his first real run is the answer to the only question a third-round pick gets asked.
He is 24 and has never been given ten consecutive starts. On a club with a 24th-ranked crease, that is a decision worth revisiting.
The Intangibles
A third-round pick, 64th overall in 2018, out of Kempele, with six seasons in the organisation and a career .9142 across 18 games.
Colorado spent the summer signing a third goaltender instead of handing him the net. The numbers say he should have had it.
