The Finesse Game

The shot was the reason he was taken 16th overall and it has not translated. He gets to shooting positions and the release is a beat slow at NHL speed, which turns a scoring chance into a blocked attempt.

2 points in 25 career games is not a body of work and the junior record was genuinely good. The read is a player whose hands are fine and whose processing at this pace is not, which is the ordinary way a scoring winger fails to arrive.

The Physical Game

6-0 and 192, and the edge that was the other half of his draft profile has not come with him. 2 penalty minutes in 22 games is close to nothing for a player whose junior reputation was built on being difficult.

He takes the body and he does not hurt anybody, and he is not going to the front of the net often enough to be counted on there. A winger who is neither a scorer nor a nuisance has a very narrow path to a lineup.
