The Finesse Game
A hundred and twenty-two unblocked attempts from a median of 52 feet, 70 per cent from beyond forty, and one goal. That is a rookie defenceman shooting from the point because the point is where he is allowed to be.
Thirteen assists in 72 games is a modest return and roughly what a twenty-year-old on a last-place club produces.
The skating and the first pass are the tools, and both are already NHL quality.
The Physical Game
Six foot three, 200, and he defends properly for a first-year player — he closes gaps, does not chase, and is willing in front of his own net. Twenty-two penalty minutes.
There is room on the frame and the strength will come.
The Intangibles
Forty-seven point four per cent of the expected goals, 30th percentile, and 47.7 per cent of the shot attempts, 33rd, across 1,105 minutes — a full top-four workload at twenty.
Those numbers are unremarkable and the minutes are not. San Jose gave a twenty-year-old seventeen minutes a night against men and he did not drown, which on a club that conceded 190 goals at five-on-five is the whole test.
Two points in his last ten. He is 20, the eleventh pick in 2024, and the third piece of a core that is now Celebrini, Smith, Misa, Chernyshov and him.
