This Season So Far
The 2024-25 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
Thirty-three games, no goals and 6 assists, 17:04 a night and minus-26. He took 36.9 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 507 minutes, the 1st percentile, and his ice went 19-33 against an expectation of 16.67-28.53.
A minus-26 in 33 games is a rate almost nobody in the league approaches, and the chance share underneath it says it was earned rather than suffered. Only two players in this edition with three hundred minutes had a worse share, and one of them is on the same blue line.
The Finesse Game
Thirty-one shots and none of them went in. One goal in 53 career games, at a median of 48 feet with 68 per cent from beyond 40.
Six assists in 33 games is a reasonable rate for a third-pair defenceman and the puck does leave his stick cleanly. Nothing about the offensive game is a reason he is in the league or a reason he would not be.
The Physical Game
He is 6-3 and 205 and engages willingly. Twenty-two penalty minutes in 33 games is a high rate and a fair amount of it is a stick arriving after a forward has already gone past.
The size is real and it is not yet used to clear a net front the way Connor Murphy uses his.
The Intangibles
A fifth-round pick in 2020 from Barrie, in his third partial season and still waiting for the run of games that settles the question. Minus-37 in 53 career games is a number that would end most careers and his club is bad enough that it will not end his.
There is a professional in here somewhere. Last season is not the evidence for it.

The eye and the numbers
HindsightThe two rank him within 0 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.
Both bars are percentiles among the 201 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 47 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Why the numbers land there
Five-on-five, 2023-24
- The club
- CHI took 41.9% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 36.9% — 5.0 below the club he did it on.
- The role
- 507 minutes at five-on-five — 18th percentile in ice time.
With and without
| Teammate | Together | Him apart | Mate apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jarred Tinordi | 33.5% | 37.9% | 41.0% |
| MacKenzie Entwistle | 34.9% | 37.6% | 43.0% |
| Philipp Kurashev | 37.3% | 36.7% | 43.6% |
33.5% together, 37.9% for him apart and 41.0% for Tinordi apart. Both were better apart than together — the pairing was doing neither of them any favours.
Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
