2022-23
Four goals and 10 points in 60 games on eleven minutes a night. Across 233 career games he has 40 points, which is the honest rate for a player in this role. He has not played an NHL game since, three seasons ago now.
The Finesse Game
Very limited. He does not shoot much, does not create, and the offence arrives by accident rather than design. The hands are functional and nothing more.
What he offers is speed on the forecheck and reliability on the penalty kill. He wins a reasonable share of faceoffs and does not lose track of his man in his own zone.
The Physical Game
Six feet and 191, and he plays a willing rather than punishing game. He blocks shots, finishes checks, and does not get pushed around, without being anyone’s idea of a physical presence.
The Intangibles
A second-round pick who never developed offensively and made himself into a specialist instead, which is the sensible outcome for a player with his tools.
At thirty he is a thirteenth forward on a good team and a fourth-line centre on a bad one. Nothing about him will change either way.
