The shot chart is the encouraging part and it is genuinely encouraging. 53 per cent of his unblocked attempts came from inside 20 feet with a median of 18 — the shortest average distance of any Calgary forward.
11 goals came out of it, which is a poor conversion from good ice, and that is a finishing problem rather than a positioning one. Those are the better kind to have at 24.
The passing is fine and unspectacular. 13 assists in 74 games.
The Physical Game
6 foot even and 178 pounds, which is light for a forward who plays where he plays. 22 penalty minutes. He gets to the net front and then gets moved out of it, which is presumably why so many of those inside shots did not go in.
A summer of weight would change more for him than for almost anybody on this roster.
