This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

5-9-1 in 17 games with an .867 and a 3.59 average, facing 406 shots and recording no shutouts.

An .867 is the worst save percentage of any goaltender in this edition who played ten games. It came in his first NHL season at 22, on a club that finished 32nd in the league at goaltending, and there is no reading of it that is anything other than bad.

The Physical Game

6-1 and 185 and small for the modern position. He plays aggressively — he meets the shooter at the top of the crease and relies on quickness rather than coverage, which is the only style available at that size.

The lateral recovery is genuinely quick and it is the best thing about him. The rebound control is poor and the depth management is inconsistent; he is caught out of his net on plays that a positional goaltender would never have to move for. He handles the puck well.

The Mental Game

He did not want to be here. He was reluctant to leave Belarus, went back to the KHL mid-season in 2023-24, and the relationship with the club has been publicly difficult from the start.

Seventeen games at 22 on a bad hockey team is a hard place to be judged from, and none of the above makes the .867 easier to explain away.

The Intangibles

A third-round pick in 2021 out of Dinamo Minsk, and 17 NHL games in.

He is 23. The club signed two goaltenders ahead of him in the summer, and the honest reading is that the next step is a full season in the American League or a return to Europe.
